It is a decent psychological thriller novel and a short book. Blatty gets two stars for the sheer force of his characters.

The idea is cool; I do wish the book had fleshed out the story more or given us characters and motives that were more memorable – I think, as short as the story is, that we simply don’t have time to know anyone well. She’d had several, and was verging on fluency in several languages theretofore unrecorded by man. Elsewhere is an eerie little haunted-house story strong on atmospherics and clever dialogue, but it’s one which ultimately disappoints with a pretty stock plot.
